Painting at Salton Sea Beach

While I was on a long trip to visit Californian beauties I made a stop at Salton Sea. This incredible highly salted artificial lake seems to be god forsaken. There are a few towns almost abandoned which were perfect for some new work. I made this one at Salton Sea Beach, on the lake’s west side. Only dead fishes, skeletons, urban decay and crazy people with dune buggies.

There’s nothing better to enjoy one of the first sunny days of the new year with some outdoor painting. The Handskull, a work I wrote about on one of my latest posts now lives bigger than ever on a decayed wall.
The outlines of the whole painting are made by scratching away the black paint.

Et In Arcadia Ego.
It’s the Death talking, reminding everyone that It stands through time and space and lasts longer than the glory of the bravest man ever lived.
This memento mori appeared on several paintings of the XVII century, such as the famous ones painted by Guercino and Poussin.

Limited edition of 30 pieces, numbered and signed by the artist.
Two colors linocut print, hand pressed, featuring a handmade red text.

I found this empty fire extinguisher while I was painting a wall with my mate Run on a rooftop in London. What a nice chance to turn something unusual into a canvas…

The latin phrase means with fire and iron, relating to military tactics. I thought it was a perfect concept to be put onto something that can be used to both cease fire (opposite) and make huge tags on walls when filled up with paint (metaphorical same).
